The Uzbek Policy (www.uzbekpolicy.org) is an online advocacy publication that intends to provide thoughtful analysis, commentary and opinion on the politics of Uzbekistan.
Our name -- "The Uzbek Policy" -- is largely inspired by our sympathy for about 27 million Uzbek citizens who now live under one of the most repressive regimes in the world. We believe that the democratic nations around the globe must adopt new approach in dealing with this totalitarian regime of President Islam Karimov, who poses threat to the peace and integrity of the human kind.
The Uzbek Policy was launched in May 2009 in connection with the 4th anniversary of 2005 Andijan massacre, during of which Uzbek government's troops killed possibly thousands of peaceful civilians who dared to voice their dissatisfaction with the policies of Karimov regime .
The publication is also an introspective voice that intends to promote a critical (and self-critical) analysis on issues regarding other Turkic nations, including Azerbaijani, Kazakhs, Tatar, Kyrgyz, Turkish people, Turkmen and Uyghur.
At The Uzbek Policy, we believe that Turkic peoples form a distinct and yet diverse community that is undergoing parallel changes, sharing many common problems and facing similar challenges. Our philosophy is that Turkic community can overcome those challenges only through peaceful, thouthful and fair (self)criticism and debate.
